Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, weary, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And linen spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
