AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We communicated to him Our decree that the guilty ones would be destroyed by the morning. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 He said: Surely these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me, 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
