The Romans (Al-Room)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Have they never learned to think for themselves? God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth and a term set [by Him]: and yet, behold, there are many people who stubbornly deny the truth that they are destined to meet their Sustainer! 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Then the fate of those who committed evil to the extreme was that they denied the signs of Allah and used to mock at them. 10
