Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
