The people of Thamud rejected Our warnings. 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 We are sending the she-camel to them to test them. So watch them and be patient. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them; every share of the water shall be regulated. 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 Taste then My torment and My warnings. 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
