The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 Gushing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
