He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
