And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 Indeed We gave him authority in the land and bestowed him the means of everything. 84 and so he chose the right means [in whatever he did]. 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before). 87 but whoever believes and does good works shall have a good reward and We shall facilitate his matter by Our command." 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 Until when he reached the rising place of the sun, he perceived it rising upon a nation for whom against it We had not set a veil. 90 (He left them) as they were: We completely understood what was before him. 91 He travelled 92 Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. 93 They said: "O Zul-qarnain! the Gog and Magog (People) do great mischief on earth: shall we then render thee tribute in order that thou mightest erect a barrier between us and them? 94 He answered: "That wherein my Sustainer has so securely established me is better [than anything that you could give me]; hence, do but help me with [your labour's] strength, [and] I shall erect a rampart between you and them! 95 "Give me pieces (blocks) of iron," then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said: "Blow," till when he had made it (red as) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper to pour over it." 96 So they [Gog and Magog] were not able to scale it, nor were they able to bore through it, 97 He said: this is a mercy from my Lord; then when the promise of my Lord cometh, He shall make it powder, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ On that day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another: the trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display - 100 They whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear. 101
