The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
