The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
