Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
