The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the right. 38
