In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
