The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
