The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
