The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
