Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
