He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
