Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
