The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
