The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He verily will be content. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
