And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 “Has he chosen daughters instead of sons?” 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 can lure away from God any 162 except those who are doomed to enter hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And indeed they used to say: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That they would be helped, 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
