Seest thou one who turns back, 33 And gave a little and [then] refrained? 34 What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 and of Abraham, who lived up to the trust? 37 That no soul shall bear another's burden, 38 And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives 39 That his endeavours will be judged, 40 And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment; 41 and that with thy Sustainer is the beginning and the end [of all that exists]; 42 and that He it is Who causes people to laugh and to cry, 43 that it is He who causes death and gives life; 44 And that He createth the two spouses, the male and the female, 45 from a discharged living germ 46 That He hath promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead); 47 that He it is Who bestowed wealth and riches, 48 And that He is the Lord of the Sirius; 49 and that He destroyed Ad, the ancient, 50 and Thamood, sparing no one, 51 And the people of Nuh (Noah) aforetime, verily, they were more unjust and more rebellious and transgressing [in disobeying Allah and His Messenger Nuh (Noah)]. 52 And the overturned towns He hurled down 53 So that they were covered over by what they were covered over. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Day of Judgment is drawing nearer. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 And laugh and not weep? 60 And ye are behaving proudly. 61 So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him). ۩ 62
