The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
