He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
