The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 On thrones, watching. 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 Blended with the water of Tasnim, (heights ultimate of evolution), 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 Wherefore Today, those who believed at the infidels are laughing, 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
