Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 He said, “My Lord! Grant me respite till the day when they will all be raised.” 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 except Your sincere servants". 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 Surely, Hell is the place to which they are destined, 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
