Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
