If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 And most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: 37 And when he comes before Us, he shall say: 'Would that there had been between me and you, the distance of the two Easts' Evil is the companion. 38 But nothing will avail you on that day, for you were unjust, and you will be partners in the punishment. 39 (Muhammad), can you make the deaf hear or guide the blind or the one who is clearly in error? 40 Even if We take you away from the world, We shall surely take vengeance on them 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way. 43 And indeed, it is a remembrance for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned. 44 You can ask Our Messengers whom We sent before you if We had commanded them to worship other gods besides the Beneficent God?" 45
