The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
