The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
