Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 into My Paradise. 30
