The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
Almighty Allah's Truth.
