He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
