Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
