۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 “And stop them they are to be questioned.” 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 But for the sincere worshipers of Allah, 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 See how those who were warned met their end! 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
