Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
