He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
