The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 We never destroyed a village whose term had not already been decreed. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
