These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
