The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
