Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
