Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
