The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
