The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
