He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
