Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
