The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on the alternate sides and crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
