Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
