He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
